Just wanted to take a few minutes to talk about vaginal douching. If you google search vaginal douching you may get quite a lot of mixed information. Its it really bad for you? Should you do it or not? What are the risks?

I’m going to try my best to give you some facts and share with you my experiences with vaginal douching. So should you douche or not?

The word ‘douche’ means to cleanse the vagina internally,  or rinsing of the vagina or in fact any other body cavity. For vaginal douching a device called a vaginal douche is used to introduce water (sometimes other cleaning agents) into the body for medical or hygienic purposes. The way i see it is if you use water for you douche then you shouldn’t go too far wrong. If you use soaps or solutions then the pH levels of these can disrupt the vagina’s own natural ph level (which is slightly acidic by the way to fight infection). The word douche is originally a French word meaning wash or shower.

Douching is a method of cleaning or washing out the vagina. You can use water for your douche but another popular mixture used in douching is vinegar and water. A lot of women will already the super powers of vinegar (it can really be used to clean everything from your shower to your vagina). There are some douches which contain antiseptics and fragrances but as I said you need to be careful with these as they can do more harm than good.  Women usually Vaginal douche for personal hygiene and to prevent infections but can also be used to cleanse the vagina after menstruation, or immediately after sexual intercourse to prevent any pregnancies, though not proven to be effective. Let me just say if your are relying on a vaginal douche to stop you getting pregnant….. good luck to you…

The equipment used for the purpose of douching is called as a douche bag, which is a piece of bag holding the mixture and attached with a small pipe. The same bag is used for an enema, but you should never mix the two to avoid the risk of spreading intestinal bacteria into the vagina. The douche injects the mixture into the vaginal area and rinses it out. The instructions on how to carry out the douching comes with the vaginal douche. The user normally just has to insert the small pipe or nozzle into the vagina and squeeze the bag to rinse the vagina. According to medical advice vaginal douching can be done up to twice a day although I would suggest that this is too much and will flush away good bacteria from with in the vagina.

The douching mixture ranges from plain water (recommended), to ones containing hydrogen peroxide or apple cider vinegar which is mixed with plain distilled water to provide relief from bacterial vaginosis.

Symptoms associated with bacterial vaginosis can be relieved with the help of a hydrogen peroxide douche this helps by restoring the pH balance. They destroy the bad bacteria and helps in strengthening the good ones. One needs to remember to use only small amounts of hydrogen peroxide mixed with distilled water to experience correct results or else it might cause more harm than benefit. Some of the Pros of vaginal douching which works in its favor are that it keeps the vaginal area clean and hygienic though there is very little evidence to prove that douching is beneficial. Some researchers have found out that douching during pregnancies reduced the risk of preterm deliveries, but another research also suggests that douching during pregnancy increased the risk of preterm deliveries. Depends on what research you read on a certian day. Douching can help to restore proper pH balance of the vagina if you know what state your vagina is in although you can risk upsetting the balance.

The cons associated with vaginal douching are more prominent than its benefits. Douching is known to cause an imbalance of bacteria’s in the vagina making the vagina more vulnerable for infections. According to researches women who douche have more risks of infections of uterus, and fallopian tubes. Douching also increases the risk of ectopic pregnancy wherein the embryo is implanted outside the uterus. The more you douche the risks of ectopic pregnancy are high and also chances of developing cervical cancer. Too much vaginal douching also is linked to cause yeast infections by disturbing the natural bacteria in the vagina. Studies also have suggested adolescents who douche regularly are more likely to develop sexually transmitted diseases. Not so good after all.

According to a lot of the so called experts vaginal douching should be avoided and in a way I tend to agree with them. But as they say everything in moderation. I actually think its the way that you douche that is important. Stay away from those heavily scented soaps and strong detergents. If you have vaginal odor and your worried I would say go pay a viit to your doctor first.

Keeping the vagina clean by washing with mild soap and warm water is good enough to clean the vagina and keep vaginal odor away..

I debated leaving this feedback because of the sensitive nature of this product. However, I had to because I want women to use this and there are not enough reviews. I want to state in advance: I do not know anyone at the company and I am not getting paid to leave this feedback. Now, with that said, I have always been extremely meticulous about my hygiene. I developed early as a teenager and that caused some alarming results and realizations, which prompted me to become almost OCD about my physical maintenance. Now, as far as a womens’ nether regions, I could pretty much keep things in check with a little hydrogen peroxide and water mixture that I’d keep in a spritz bottle instead of soap. No one I was intimate with had complaints, quite the contrary. I knew not to douche, and I ate yogurt, especially since I have a sweet tooth which can also create an imbalance.

However, after I became pregnant last year and gave birth, my hormones caused some strange Ph level imbalances. No matter what I did, there was this strange smell after awhile again. My husband did not notice or at least he did not mention it, but I did, and that was enough. It was not ‘fishy’- if you have a strong fishy odor, that is an infection that you need to have treated before using this product. Once you get that taken care, use of this product can help keep you clean. Also, it is advised from the show the ‘Doctors’ where this product was featured recently, that if you have recurrent bacterial vaginitis, that you should have that treated.

However, I know in my circle of female friends and family that the usual products for BV do not work or do not work long term. Some women have no infection but get reoccurred bouts of BV which causes them to feel embarrassed, ashamed and drastically affects their sex life. I personally would give this a shot if you have recurrent bouts of BV. I have read on some message boards that it is in fact working for that but you first want to make sure that that is what you have so that you do not ignore a STI/STD or other vaginal infection.

In any case, after a month of trying to get rid of this strange situation, after one use, IT IS GONE! So, whatever was going on- which even could have been an issue with old blood still inside from my pregnancy which was suggested by one nurse, it is finally over! I love this product. It is not a douche in the sense that it does not push liquid into your vagina/cervix. It sprouts out and down. Douching is bad because it pushes bad bacteria further into the vagina and can throw off your balance even more. For the last 30-35 days I have been trying to get rid of this and nothing worked. I was cleared of any infections, etc. It literally was because of my recent pregnancy and there does not seem to be a lot of information on this. So now, I have decided I will use this product after my cycle and after sex and continue to clean with my peroxide/water mixture in place of soap. If you do have BV, or a stronger odor than what I am describing, I would suggest initially using it daily for at least two weeks. Even women with stronger odors are saying that they have seen drastic changes from first use-3 uses which is pretty impressive!

I did A LOT of research on this product before purchasing it and real life accounts is what finally sold me, from various message boards. It uses your own tap water- which is almost free of charge and it does not hurt or disrupt your balance. You can feel confident with your partner during intimacy, you can feel great after intercourse by being able to rinse away any body fluids and lubricants from yourself which are also known to cause odor if not removed and you can use after your menstrual cycle and pregnancy to help ensure that any bad bacteria/old blood is out of there, preventing odor. I hope someone finds this review helpful. It is worth the price for peace of mind and if you think about it, if you are buying other products that do not work or wear off after a few days, if you look at your spending for these products: douches, so-called odor preventing washes and gels, you could have went on and bought this and been done with it! I prefer the natural methods- they are far more effective and not as harmful. (water, peroxide, yogurt and this!)

Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID) – PID is an infection of a woman’s pelvic organs including the uterus (womb), Fallopian tubes (tubes), ovaries, and cervix. Actually the majority of cases of PID are caused as a result of either suffering from Chamydia or Gonorrhea. This is why if you are in any doubt a to what might be causing your vaginal odor it is always bet to get checked out as you never know what might develop.

Vaginal Yeast Infection – Vaginal yeast infections occur when new yeast is introduced into the vaginal area, or when there is an increase in the quantity of yeast already present in the vagina relative to the quantity of normal bacteria. This often happens when taking antibiotics for other reasons. The antibiotics kill not only the bad bacteria but also the good, this lead to a build up of yeast with in the vagina.

As you can see many things can cause your vagina to smell like fish. i would always recommend a check up to establish what is going on.

A Women’s vagina is normally characterized with a mild odor that will be individual to her but not to unpleasant. In certain circumstances a women may experience a foul or fishy vaginal odor which is really not good. It will not only cause discomfort but it may also lead to emotional impacts such as low self esteem and low self confidence. Nobody wants to smell down there do they? Any women who suffers regular bouts of strong vaginal odor will know just how embarrassing it can be especially when it comes to sexual encounters.

What are the causes for vaginal Odor?

Vaginal odor can be caused by several factors such as an infection like bacterial vaginosis, sexually transmitted diseases, or poor hygiene. Bacterial vaginosis is caused by the overgrowth or imbalance of bacteria with in the vagina. There is always bacteria living quite normally in the vagina. however when the bad bacteria overgrows or imbalance’s this can cause vaginal discharge with foul or fishy vaginal odor. The chances of developing sexually transmitted disease can be increased by bacterial vaginosis. Other causes of vaginal odor may be vaginitis or the inflammation or infection of vagina or poor hygiene.
Examinations such as pelvic and physical exam, sexual and medical history can be used to determine the cause of vaginal odor. The health practitioner will be the one to conduct the pelvic examination. The practitioner will examine the external part of the vagina and use a speculum, an instrument used to gently open and view the cervix and the vagina. A sample of cells will also be taken by the practitioner to determine the cause and kind of infection which is causing the vaginal odor.

What are the symptoms of vaginal odor?

Vaginal odor symptoms may include a strong smell of a fish. The odor may get worse especially after an sexual intercourse. The symptoms may depend on the cause of the vaginal odor. Some of the symptoms of vaginal odor may include pain during sexual intercourse, pelvic pain or abdominal pain, cramps, unusual vaginal discharge, spotting and genital itching. If the vaginal odor is caused by a sexually transmitted disease or other serious causes of vaginal odor, the symptoms may include unresponsiveness, dizziness, confusion, lethargy, high fever and heavy bleeding in the vagina. If the patient feels the symptoms of a sexually transmitted disease, it is better if the patient seeks the advice of their doctor to prevent further harm. You may be reading this because you too are suffering from a fishy vaginal odor. Any sort of unwanted vaginal odor is unpleasant but when that odor is a strong fishy smell it can be all the more embarrassing.

Most women have a unique smell from their vagina and its quite normal for that smell to be a little musty. Also the smell might change during the monthly cycle becoming stronger at certain times of the month.  You may or may not be aware of your own smell but its what your used to smelling normally. Its when you notice a change in odor that you may begin to worry. Women tend to know their own bodies very well. We ladies like to spend a lot of time making ourselves look and feel beautiful, so a fishy vaginal odor occurring is likely to make us very self conscious.

The major worry is that if you can smell it yourself then everyone else must be able to smell it as well. Actually this is not always the case but I can see why we worry.

There are a few steps us women can take to help eliminate fishy vaginal odor and we’ll start with the obvious. Personal hygiene. OK so it may sound obvious but we should keep ourselves nice and clean down there. That been said we should over wash as this will have a negative effective. Lets say no more than twice a day, morning and evening should do. Do not use any strongly perfumed or scented soaps or detergents. These products can smell nice and the temptation is to use them to mask any fishy smell you might detect but when it comes to soap natural and unscented are much better and will balance the pH levels with in the vagina.

You see the vagina has bacteria in it all the time, actually this is a good thing because the it is good bacteria that helps to maintain a healthy vagina by fighting of bad bacteria and maintaining a constant pH level. The good bacteria is known as Lactobacillus Acidophilus and it is actually the same bacteria that is found in all these live culture yogurts that are supposed to be so good for us. Well now you know why, it will boost up the good bacteria inside your body to fight off all the bad.

Douching. You may have heard of this or you might be thinking, douching what is it. Well its the practice of washing inside your vagina. it can be done by hand or by directing water inside the vagina with a specially shaped implement. Any how, however you have heard to do it DON’T. Douching is bad period. You see by washing directly inside the vagina you are going to be disturbing all the good bacteria we have been talking about. Especially if you are using heavily scented soaps. The pH level with in the vagina will be all over the place.

So what else can you do to help your fishy vaginal odor be a thing of the past? Well how about breathing more easily. I’m not talking about physically breathing but more about allowing your vagina to breath. I mean you could do this by wearing no underwear and allowing the air to circulate but if you are not so brave a good pair of cotton undies will do the trick. Man made fibers such as nylon do not allow such air circulation and this provides a warm damp environment for bacteria to grow. BAD news.

If you search around the internet for information about fishy vaginal odor you will probably get a lot of people telling you, oh you must have this infection or that condition. While this may be true in some cases (always get checked by a doctor if you think you may be suffering from an infection). Actually it is not the case in most instances of Fishy vaginal odor. Some women just develop  a smelly vagina and there is nothing they can do about it.

So how do i know so much about this, well I suffered on and off from a foul smelling vagina for a long time. Longer than I care to remember. Until a dear friend who could see the embarrassment i was suffering suggested a product she had used.

When a women starts to experience feminine odor it can quite literally take over her life. When you start to smell the feminine odor you often wonder if anyone else can smell it too. You can become obsessed with the smell and find it hard to concentrate on anything else. Feminine odor is actually very common and as you will know most women will have some sort of smell but it’s when that feminine odor smell becomes excessive that we begin to worry.

If you are suffering from unwanted or excessive feminine odor then there are things you can do starting today that can help reduce the smell. Question 1. What sort of underwear do you wear? Are you a lady who likes to wear sexy lacy underwear? Well the underwear you choose to wear can have a big effect on your feminine odor. Most lacy or modern underwear is made from nylon or a mix of nylon and other man made materials. These materials do not allow the vagina to breathe. Make sure you wear cotton underwear whenever possible, cotton is a natural product that will wick perspiration away from the vagina and allow it to breathe. Another point on washing and hygiene is douching. Please do not douche it is not healthy for you and will always do more harm than good. You may think that with douching you are really cleaning the inside of the vagina and therefore washing away feminine odor but in fact what you are doing is unsettling the natural pH balance with in the vagina which will allow the growth of bad bacteria gardnerella which will infact course more and stronger feminine odor.

So what are the main vaginal odor causes i should be telling you about?

All women will have some sort of vaginal odor that will be on the most mild and somewhat unique to the individual. Most women will then go on to suffer from some sort of unpleasant vaginal odor at some time in their lives. Whether its a strong vaginal odor or a fishy vaginal odor and whether or not it is accompanied by a vaginal discharge or other symptoms will largely depend on the root cause.

Vaginal Odor causes include Bacterial Vaginosis, which is in fact the most common cause of vaginal odor. bacterial vaginosis occurs when an overgrowth of bad bacteria known as Gardnerella. When this overgrowth takes place basically the bad bacteria takes over the good bacteria which lives normally with in the vagina and an infection occurs. bacterial vaginosis can be treated quite effectively and quickly and this will in turn reduce the level of any vaginal odor. The confusion comes as it is actually possible to have a vaginal infection with out vaginal odor and ofcourse it is also possible to have vaginal odor without any infection. As a general rule of thumb any itching without odor is likely to be caused by yeast infection while inflammation with a strong vaginal odor is caused by bacterial infection.

Even the food that you eat can effect your vaginal odor. If you eat a lot of hot spicy foods, processed foods and refined sugars these can all contribute to vaginal odor. The best thing to do is eat as healthily as possible, try to eat regular portions of fresh fruit and vegetables and consume as much water as possible.
